Student Registration

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:

It is hard to believe that it is August and we are sending out the registration dates and times for the 2022-2023  school year.  Summer seems to go way too quick around here, especially with how nasty the winter and spring were last year.  Let’s not try that again this year.

High School registration for the 2022-2023 school year will be on the dates and times listed below. Freshmen and a parent need to be at ONE of the registration times in our Performing Arts Center.  Each freshman session will last about an hour.  10th-12th graders can make an appointment to talk with the counselors during their assigned day if their schedules are not full.

A new thing for parents this year……we need EVERYONE to log into their ParentVUE and do an online registration with updated addresses and phone numbers.  This way we can contact you for storm days, early outs or late ins or anything else we need to contact you about.  There is information below on exactly how to do this.

We are keeping our 8 period day with a modified block schedule.  What this means is that on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, students will have 8 classes….each being 45 minutes.  On Wednesdays, students will go to periods 1,2,5,6 for 84 minutes each.  On Thursdays, students will go to periods 3,4,7,8 for 84 minutes each.  On Wednesdays and Thursdays, there will be a 30 minute FLEX time right before lunch where students who are missing assignments or tests/quizzes will be assigned to that teacher.  This will show up in their studentVUE app on their phones and they will also get a text at 9:55, which is right between the morning blocks.  If students want extra help from teachers, they are welcome to use FLEX as well.  Last year, this decreased the amount of failures by over 5%.

Speaking of phones, we are cracking down on phones this year at the senior high.  There will be NO cell phone use in the classrooms at all unless it is directed by the teacher.  There are a few instances where cell phone usage is appropriate in the classroom, but we are finding that students are using them WAY too much and student engagement is getting less and less.  If students have a cell phone violation, it will be turned in to the office where it will be kept for a minimum of 8 class periods.  The amount of time the phone will be kept will increase with each violation.  Also, if you are a student/athlete and get a violation, you will not be allowed to practice or play in your event on that day.  This rule has been in place for a number of years and it will continue.

NEW & Extremely Important

Online Registration for NEW & RETURNING Students!

In order to keep up with technology, we are implementing Online Registration this year. Every parent of a returning student needs to sign in to their ParentVue starting August 1st and complete the online registration process before school starts. By doing this, you are assuring that the school has all the proper information regarding your child in the event of any emergency or situation. You will be able to update any changes to personal information via this portal. Let’s face it, in this day and age, schools need to know how to reach you!

Parents of Returning Students: Sign in to ParentVue

If you know of any NEW to East Grand Forks Public Schools students who need to get registered, have them visit this link starting August 1st to register: https://www.egf.k12.mn.us/o/senior-high-school/page/student-registration

Attendance

Attendance will be taken by teachers each day.  Students are expected to be engaged and participating in school from 8:30 am - 3:22 pm each day.  If your child is sick, please call the office at 218-773-2405 even if they are not in the building for school.  For appointments, please call the school before school starts (or send a note)  to let us know what time your student is leaving. Then your student can pick up a pass from class before class starts. ADDITIONALLY, when your student returns to school from the appointment, they must have a slip from the doctor/dentist/etc. confirming that they were at an appointment. NEW: you can submit attendance via your ParentVue now.  For partial day (appt etc) please make sure to leave specific instructions in the Notes box–what time they are leaving etc.
