Hi, Players and Parents;

Volleyball 2018 Information

Dear Volleyball Parents and Players,

As most of you have probably heard, I have accepted the head volleyball position. I was Green Wave head coach from 1986-2010 before resigning due to a knee injury and two serious infections following surgery. Since that time, I have watched my own daughters from the stands and coached some middle school volleyball as it has always been my passion. I am excited to be back at the high school level!

With that being said, there are some changes that have evolved over the past few seasons that our Athletic Director, Scott Koberinski, and I need to let you know about. Due to other area schools not having C2 teams the past several years, and not being able to find enough games to merit a team, we will only have three teams this season rather than four. What this means for all of our incoming players: tryouts will be more competitive than ever. Also, some kids will not make a team.

This is an unfortunate reality, and my staff and I are not looking forward to making those tough decisions. Our tryout week will include the timed mile run and several other physical agilities and jumping tests; so we do encourage players to come into tryouts already in shape for the season. So please train on your own prior to August 13th. The decisions for squad selection will be based on many necessary physical skills, volleyball skills, teamwork, work ethic, communication, etc. Although cutting players is not something any of us wants, it may be an opportunity for students to go out for other Fall activities such as tennis, cross country, or soccer.

Try-outs start August 13th and all incoming Sophomores must have a sports physical prior to trying out.

Altru will host high school sports physicals at several locations throughout summer 2018. These are held by Altru Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine physicians and Altru Family Medicine Physicians.

Cost is $35 (cash or check).

*No appointment necessary for Altru Family Medicine Residency dates. Walk-in only.

*Player and Parent Pre-season Meeting, Auguest 7th at 7 pm in the SH Library. Please attend if you plan to try-out for VB.
