Right to Request Teacher Qualifications

ISD 595 has access to federal No Child Left Behind programming dollars through Title IA, Title II (class size reduction and staff development), and ARRA (stimulus monies).

In this district, all Title monies are channeled through South Point and New Heights Elementary Schools in order to provide supplemental reading intervention to students who are identified at certain points of the year as being behind their grade level. A combination of assessments are used to determine this including STAR, NWEA Map testing, and Benchmark Assessments.

Once a student is identified as needing additional help, one of five teachers use a technique called Leveled Learning Intervention which is designed to meet differing student reading abilities on a daily basis for 30 minutes per day in groups ranging from one to three students.

At the end of an 18-week period, students are reassessed. If a particular student is now up to grade level, he or she is exited out of the program (which is the goal of this program: to get students caught up). If a student still lags behind at the end of the 18 weeks, he or she is referred to other specialists for additional evaluation, remaining in the program during this time.

If a child has been identified as being below grade level, a permission slip is sent home. Upon receiving permission to enter the program, the child begins receiving supplemental reading help outside of the core subject times.

Because ISD 595 receives federal funds to support its Title I programming, we would like to inform you that you have the right to request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher(s). If you decide to do this, we will provide the following:

  • the type of college degree held by the classroom teacher(s);

  • the qualifications of any Title I paraprofessional if your child is receiving Title I services;

  • whether the teacher has met state licensing requirements for the subject(s) and grade level taught;

  • whether the state licensing requirements have been waived for the teacher under an emergency status;
