He was nominated by paraprofessional Amy Larsen. This is what was noticed: Conner was in the blue wing one morning and noticed it needed vacuuming. He asked to use the vacuum and took care of the mess, even though he didn’t make it. Way to be responsible for your school Conner!

He was nominated by SEL Teacher Mrs. Olstad and this is what she said about Lochlan: "Lochlan was sitting at lunch eating when another student was having a difficult time. Lochlan offered his seat to the student and went to sit in a different spot. That made his friend very happy. Thank you Lochlan for caring for your friend."

Orange Shirt Day began with Phyllis Webstad’s story of having her new orange shirt taken away on her first day at a residential school. The day is an opportunity to remember Indigenous children who attended residential and boarding schools in Canada and the United States, including those who never returned home. It is also a time to recognize the lasting effects on families and communities.
Thank you for helping our students approach this history with care and for showing Indigenous students and families that they belong in our schools.

Thank you to everyone who supported our students and activities throughout Homecoming Week. East Side Pride was certainly on display! We had great attendance at both the football game and homecoming Dance, and we appreciate the tremendous community support.
Unfortunately, we also experienced a number of behavioral issues involving elementary and middle school students at the football game. As a reminder, students in 5th grade and younger must be accompanied by an adult at all extracurricular events.
Please remind your students that they are attending these events to watch and support the activity taking place. The district provides free admission to encourage our students to attend, but we also expect appropriate behavior.
Attending extracurricular events is a privilege, not a right. Students involved in behavioral issues may be asked to leave and could lose the privilege of attending future events.
Thank you for reviewing these expectations with your students and for helping us maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.

Our Good News Call of the Day is for Lachlan Wallace.
She was nominated by third grade teacher Mr. Hemsing and this is what he had to say about Lachlan. "Mr. Adolphson and I were on the playground during recess talking about the recess equipment shed being a mess. Later, I went to put something away in the shed and found Lachlan straightening everything up. She mentioned that she heard us talking and then went to clean it up on her own. Thank you Lachlan for independently taking on that responsibility!"

Carter was nominated by SEL Teacher Mrs. Olstad and here is what she said about him: "Carter was on his bike ready to leave South Point when he saw a younger student having trouble with her bike. The chain had come off and she didn’t know how to put it back on. Carter wasted no time. He pulled his bike over and put the chain back on her bike without anyone asking him to do so. Carter demonstrated a high level of responsibility and caring for a fellow student."

Our assembly theme was "Emotion Coach" and we also focused on our school rules of Respectful, Responsible, and Safe. Being your own Emotion Coach means you help yourself understand and handle your feelings by paying attention to them, naming them, and choosing a safe and helpful reaction. We compared this to the players in a baseball team. Just like those players we need to practice the skills to handle emotions to be successful. We will be learning and practicing those skills throughout our year at South Point.
