Greetings!
Each year, we practice various ways to stay safe in our school. We practice 5 fire drills, a tornado drill, and 5 lockdowns. We have 3 different codes for our lockdowns that reflect the following.
Teach On
No one leaves or enters school.
Stay Put
Classroom doors closed and locked
Students/Staff remain in classroom
Blinds/Shades Closed
Lockdown
Classroom doors closed and locked
Windows closed
Blinds/Shades Closed
Students remain in safe spot in room
Throughout the school year, we will practice the Teach On & Stay Put Lockdowns. These lockdowns allow classes to carry on as usual in the classroom. On Tues, Sept. 9, at 1:10 pm, we are going to practice the first "Stay Put." We will be practicing a “Lockdown” on Monday, Oct. 22, at 9:30 am. We ask the staff to talk to their classes about the upcoming drill, as we do not want it to be a surprise and want to give students the opportunity to ask questions. We wanted to make sure that you were aware of this upcoming drill so that your student did not come home and say we were in "Lockdown" today. Again, this is a scheduled drill that we need to complete each year. If you have any questions, please reach out to us. The safety of our staff and students is always our number one priority.
Sincerely,
Cierra Hangsleben, Principal, New Heights
Tina Haaven, Assistant Principal, New Heights
