March 2025

New Heights will celebrate the joy of reading during the month of March with a variety of activities. The goal of the month-long celebration is for New Heights students to gain a greater appreciation for reading and to be motivated to read! We also hope that our activities will promote parent participation in reading with their children. Our theme “Blast Off Into Books” is about the adventures books can take you on. We’ll meet beloved characters and learn about the authors who create them.

* Reading logs will be going home with students this week. For every book or chapter the child reads, color one symbol. Every time your child fills up a sheet, send it to school. We will be keeping track of reading at school as well. Please encourage reading at home!

* Classrooms will have Space vehicles that move throughout space. For every 100 books read (please help with this at home!!) the class vehicle will move to another planet.

* If your child has a “READ” shirt, they are encouraged to wear it on Wednesdays.

* If a family member would like to read to their child’s class, please reach out to the teacher.

* March 11th is Read My Shirt Day. Students should wear a shirt with words. Make sure your child knows what the shirt says.

* March 13th from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm is Bingo for Books Night. You are invited to to come to school to play Bingo and win books! We are also hosting a Build a Stuffie Event the same night. (These were pre-ordered.)

*March 14th is our School wide Read-In event. Students can bring a blanket and or stuffed friend to lay on and read with.

* Our annual Character Parade will take place on March 26th. Students are asked to dress up as their favorite storybook character, and bring the book with them. In the morning, each class will parade through the hallways and through the gym. Parents are invited to come and view the parade in the gym. There will be more information coming. Start thinking about a character!

* We have collaborated with UMC and each grade level will have a special activity day where UMC students will be our hosts. This will be held on-site.

* March 28th is Family Read Event. This is a rescheduled date. Family members are encouraged to come to school and read with their children. This will take place from 2:00 pm-2:20 pm.

* March 28th will be our closing ceremonies where we will find out how many books the students have read! Send any reading logs before this day.

The goal this month is to READ more than you usually do!

Our staff has been working hard to organize an exciting and encouraging month for our students. We hope you and your child will enjoy this month! Thank you for your support and help to instill a love of reading!
