The "I Love to Read Month" Read S'more at Camp Read-a-Lot came to a close this past Friday, March 29th. At closing ceremonies, the total of books read by the whole school was shared and that total was 25,271. Great job, kids!! Also a wonderful poem called "We Pledge to Read" was shared. (See image.)
During this month, the students were encourage to read and record their time at home and at school as well. For every 10 logs handed in per class, the class would earn a marshmallow on their campfire in the Commons Area.
There were many fun activities for our students to participate in. Each day there was a Word-of-the-Day with each word focusing on this year's theme of camping. On Friday, March 8th, all grade levels were able to participate in a READ-In. Read My Shirt Day was held on Tuesday, March 12th, so students were encouraged to wear a shirt with words on them. On Tuesday, March 19th, it was Channel the Flannel Day and everyone could wear flannel or plaid clothing.
This year, families were invited to come to a S'more Family Reading Time which was held on Wednesday, March 27th in the morning. There were many excited parents and grandparents that came to New Heights to read with their child.
The Book Character Parade is always a fun time to celebrate reading!! The students were asked to dress up as a book character and be in the annual parade which was on Friday, March 22nd. This is a popular event that family and friends can come to and enjoy!
Thank you to the students, parents, and staff for making this year's "I Love to Read Month" a success!!
